Ever since the beginning of this project I have been excited to do it. I knew that it would keep my interest and push me to learn so much. I also knew that not many people use/study film photography anymore (or so I thought.) I could not have imagined from the first day that I would have learned so much and enjoyed it at the same time. My experience while learning about film photography was extremely interesting. Although film photography is a type of "dead art" many people still practice it to this day. At my high school there was a class on film photography. Many of the students continue on with film photography after they take the class. I have learned so much from talking to different people, doing research on it, and visiting art experiences. It takes a lot of time and effort but artists enjoy the challenge. On each 35 mm camera, there is a light meter and you must perfectly read the meter in order to get a good shot. The tricky part is that you will never know until you develop the film and see how it turned out. Sometimes whole rolls of film can turn out awful. I can imagine the frustration this must cause. If your film does turn out correct then you have to take it in the dark room for printing. Remember the picture that you have on the film is the ONLY copy that you have of that picture. The darkroom process is a lot of trial and error so it also takes a lot of time and effort. These days we take pictures on our phones or our cameras but never have to worry about developing them. If we want to print them, it takes about 5 seconds. The world is so different now and because of that photography has changed. I loved learning about film photography and how photography in general has developed over the years. I cannot wait to get in the dark room and try it out myself!
I believe that I will honestly take a class on film photography. I want to spend time developing my skills and becoming better. I know that I will probably never use film for my actual every day pictures. However, I think that it would be very interesting to spend some free time creating them for art. The process seems so tedious but the end product is obviously enjoyable. I want to dedicate my time to something and watch it turn out exactly how I pictured it. I know that this does not happen to often but I want to feel it. I want to put myself in their shoes. I also want to take a lot of portraits. I believe that I could be so expressive and dramatic with portraits. I also want to try out different lightings with people in the picture. I already contacted the teacher I know from high school and she told me she would teach me some things. I am super excited to get that opportunity and I am thankful that this project motivated me to go out and try something new.
